Public Engagement
Public engagement orients our work in all ways. In all of our work, we emphasize the importance of involving diverse perspectives, particularly those that have been traditionally overlooked, in order to foster sustainable and just future.
At MSU, MCW is touted as a flagship program for interdisciplinarity and equity in international collaborations. The MCW team and broader partner network mobilize interdisciplinary research, knowledge, and partnerships to advise UN agencies and states on the cultural and ecological impacts of hydro-development in the region, to connect and amplify Indigenous and ethnic minority communities who are often hardest hit by ecological change, and to support Mekong scholars and activists who, in a context of increasing authoritarianism, put their safety and jobs at risk by telling these stories.
