Sao Sreymao

Independent Artist

Sao Sreymao was born at a refugee camp near the border between Cambodia and Thailand. Her training is in Visual and Applied Arts from Phare Ponleu Selpak’s School in Battambang province and in Contemporary Art from Sa Sa Art Projects (to support young artists in developing their emerging artistic practices and building critical knowledge). Her multidisciplinary practice includes painting, photography, digital drawing, sculpture and performance. Her works explore personal expression and memories, as well as the changing physical and psychological landscapes of Cambodian urban and rural communities. She has also collaborated with various writers in visual storytelling and published a number of graphic novels. In addition, Sreymao’s artworks have been exhibited as a solo and groups at local and international galleries as well as art festivals.
